Water Heater Repair-Is Repairing Your Water Heater Worth It?

Water heater repair is something that every home owner will deal with at some point, since there is no water heater that lasts forever. Whether or not your water heater requires repair; or you need a new one, it all depends on the problem it has.

Problems and Water Heater Repair

Water heater repair

  1. Water That is Too Hot or Too Cold

This problem is because of a faulty temperature pressure relief valve. Once the water reaches a certain pressure, this valve is to shut off the water heater’s heating element. In case the valve is faulty, this is dangerous due to the scolding hot water which the unit produces; plus bursting of the unit due to build up pressure. Contact a licensed repairman to inspect the unit.

  1. Leaks

Leaking is one of the problems that can be easily fixed. Leaks can be from the tank, pipes or drain valve. Fixing the drain valve is the easiest, the valve is simply tightened and the leaking stops. In case the leak is from the pipes, the fittings are inspected and each one is tightened. If the leak continues then the cause could be hole or a crack due to corrosion on one of the pipes. This problem can be fixed. If the leak is coming from a tank, purchasing a new tank and replacing the old one is the best option to consider.

  1. Water Not Hot Enough

In cases where the water is not hot enough or not hot, the cause usually is with the heating element. Therefore, getting a new one is the best alternative as repair can be very expensive.

  1. Pilot Light

When your pilot light keeps going out on the gas water heater, this is an indication that there is problem with the orifice.  Therefore, clear it from any debris and dirt.  The problem might also be with the thermocouple, replacing the thermocouple does not cost much in fact if you are handy you can do it yourself.

Repairing your water heater is worth it, as it offsets any cost that you can incur due to any problem arising from it. Plus not to mention the good service it will render to you.
